LESSON ABOUT LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD

Subject: Basic English

English Level: Primary Teaching, Second Cycle (End of 3rd level or beginning of 4th level)

Context: Pupils at compulsory school aged 7-8 years old, having begun to learn English at the age of 6 with 2 hours week learning classes in all levels. The ambiance is the one of an small village with no other English input opportunities than the only school program.
Goals of the unit:
1. Language:
At the end of the unit students will have practiced...
- vocabulary related to infant stories, specially to “Little Red Riding Hood”:Family, senses, wild animals and jobs.
- using computers and internet for learning.
- developing autonomy in learning.

2. ContentCommunicative skills:
- listening comprehension from different versions of a story from basic to advanced ones, and with different supports: teacher speech and authentic videos and recordings related to the content.
- expressive reading from basic texts with sentences of classic stories.
- writing the vocabulary related to the subject on illustrated worksheets or posters.
- expressive speaking: role play about the story.

3. Study Skills
Students will have the opportunity to...
- use different Web tools for learning (web pages, blogs, online platforms, voice tools)
- work in groups rehearsing and acting a role play.
- develop expressive oral skill and spontaneity in reading and acting.
- practice the structures appeared in the story
- develop autonomy in learning.


4. Timing:Two or three weeks (4-6 hours class):
2-3 hours reading, seeing videos, and working on vocabulary.
1-2 hour rehearsing in groups.
1 hour acting the role plays.

5. Evaluation:
- Oral reading registers.
- Work in role plays.
- Writting worksheets.
- Interactive test.

2.- Read the story of “Little Red Riding Hood” and choose a version to print and study at home. Then work in groups to prepare a play with it (each group needs a narrator, a mother, Riding Hood, the wolf, a grandmother and the woodcutter). At the end of the unit you must act and play the story for the class (perhaps we’ll film on video the plays: Do your best!)

5.- Half the class may look for nature jobs and the other half for family members review and also do the poster about.
